AEI-English Electric of Bangladesh Limited is a part of the erstwhile GEC Group of Companies in Bangladesh. It was formed as AEI-English Electric of Pakistan Ltd., following the merger of its two parent companies, the then English Electric Company and Associated Electrical Industries with GEC in the UK, in 1967. It was reincorporated as AEI-English Electric of Bangladesh Limited, in 1975, after the Liberation of Bangladesh.
Notwithstanding many changes in the corporate structure of its parent companies, AEI-English Electric has continued with its core business in the territory now forming Bangladesh, for almost the last half century – which is the representation of its overseas principals, both from the UK and other major European countries, as well as being the local construction arm of overseas main contractors undertaking major turnkey contracts in Bangladesh in the fields of Power Generation, Electricity Distribution, Railway Transportation and Telecommunications.
